What are the chemical properties of PP cream containers
    source:www.auykas.com  |  Release time:2025-07-14
The chemical properties of PP cream cans are mainly determined by their material - polypropylene (PP), which is a common thermoplastic polymer with the following main chemical characteristics:
    1. Strong chemical stability
Corrosion resistance: PP has good resistance to most acid, alkali and salt solutions (such as hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide dilute solution, etc.), is not easy to chemical reaction or dissolution, and is suitable for containing cream, lotion and other skin care products containing acid and alkali ingredients.
Limited resistance to organic solvents: It has some resistance to organic solvents with low polarity (such as gasoline and kerosene), but long-term exposure to strong organic solvents (such as benzene, chloroform, and carbon tetrachloride) may cause swelling or dissolution, so it is not suitable for long-term storage of products containing a large amount of strong organic solvents.
    2. Good thermal stability
The melting point of PP is about 165 ℃, and its chemical properties are stable at room temperature. Short term exposure to temperatures of 60-80 ℃ (such as the low-temperature heating process in skincare production) is not easy to decompose or release harmful substances.
However, prolonged exposure to high temperatures (over 100 ℃) may lead to oxidative aging, causing the material to become brittle and the mechanical properties to decrease. However, the typical usage scenario of cream jars (stored at room temperature) does not involve such situations.
    3. Aging resistance
Polypropylene does not contain double bonds in its molecular structure and has better antioxidant capacity than polyethylene (PE). However, long-term exposure to ultraviolet, high temperature, or oxygen environments may still lead to slow oxidative degradation, resulting in surface cracking and discoloration. Therefore, PP cream cans usually add antioxidants and UV absorbers to enhance stability and extend their service life.
    4. Insoluble in water and most common liquids
PP is a non-polar polymer with low affinity for water, insoluble in water, and not easily corroded by water. It is suitable for containing water-based cream products and will not cause deformation or component migration due to water infiltration.
    5. Non toxicity
Pure PP material itself is non-toxic and odorless, meeting the safety standards for food grade and cosmetic packaging (such as FDA, EU 10/2011, etc.). It will not release harmful substances under normal use conditions and will not contaminate the cream products in the can.
